Kaidravuni.com Revitalisation

on

All that has happened in the world in terms of pandemic, climate change calamities, economic ups and downs, rising geopolitical tensions, with effect from 2020, have had their various adverse ways of impacting plans – be they state, corporate or personal. Kaidravuni.com has certainly had its share of adversities – in some unexpected and inexplicable ways; and our capacities for servicing and creating content for this blog have been somewhat disrupted. The administrators sincerely apologise for that.

The administrators of course were not spared by Covid-19. But we followed all protocol and managed our lives without much fuss.  Fortunately, members of our extended family and close communities (including our village Dravuni) effectively managed our various taxing experiences and thus escaped the worse scenario. We are aware however that some others were not as fortunate as we were.

Our close family situation had already changed well before Covid-19. All three children with their respective families live abroad, including a first great granddaughter (Lusi Evia). The long separation necessitated by Covid-19 has essentially brought home the harsh realities of loneliness when one’s loved ones are thousands of miles away. But thank you Messenger and Zoom for the relief you bring! Apart from that, my wife and I have now opted to live in New Zealand six months every year. Our two daughters Mereia and Vasemaca and respective families live there in Wellington and Auckland respectively. Our son, George and his family have lived in Doha for the last 12 years.

We now face the future with new vigour and a new blueprint that aim to resolve the inconsistencies of the past and to aspire to accomplishing new heights. The administrators are convinced, given this blog’s global readership, that this is an exciting path to future communication, scholarship and epistemology.

The administrators plan to immediately post all contents that have been piling up. Three existing Pages, viz: Diplomatic Reflections, Pacific and Regionalism and Poetry are certainly going to benefit right away from this resurgence. The other Pages will be attended to in due course.

Helen and I live in Paekākāriki, near Wellington, six months in the year. Helen continues with her consultancy work whilst I spend much time on Zoom and continuing with my writing, especially of poems.

Bulou is a poem I have just composed, and you can read all about her here. It is a response to a painting made by our daughter, Mereia, that now lives with us for six months, and with Vasemaca for six months.

We welcome new and old readers to Kaidravuni.com and look forward to a year of updates, stories and insights about Dravuni island!
